Deuteronomy 6:1-9

Train Up a Child

A Fountain of Life
The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that one may
turn away from the snares of death. Proverbs 13:14. Those
of us who were taught the Word of God by faithful, gracious
saints when we were young should be very thankful to the
Lord, and to them. We thank God for those are currently
involved in teaching our youth – and we thank you for doing
so. There is life in the words of a wise and sound Bible
teacher.
It is a great privilege to teach our young ones the things of
the Lord. Parents have the primary responsibility to instruct
their children in the Word of God and should take great joy in
doing so. Others can share in the blessing as well:
Grandparents, Sunday school teachers, youth group leaders
and the like can have great influence on the way youth
develop in the faith. Teaching God’s Word, like teaching
anything else is educational – we provide vital information
that is stored up in the brain – but it is the content of the
Bible that God wants us to know most – and to have it sink
into our hearts. The impact of God’s Word taught is
transformational. Other teachings may transform life for
better or worse, but God’s Word alone with the work of the
Spirit is used to save and sanctify souls and shape the way
we live our lives. May we be diligent in our various capacities
as handlers of God’s Word to present the Holy Scriptures in a
clear an understandable way with all humility and grace to
the precious generation of Covenant youth we are honored
to have with us. May God bless the efforts of our home and
our church to make disciples of Christ out of your young
people.
“Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life,
and we have believed, and have come to know,
that you are the Holy One of God.”
Simon Peter in John 6:68-9
